PART II: Cognition and Sport

While we often only think about the physical side of athletics, the psychological underpinnings of athletics include cognition. Chapter 3 is written with coaches as the intended audience, to highlight the importance of using clear language along with visuals and demonstrations to help student athletes more fully engage in their practices. Learning mind-sets are not just for academics, they apply to all forms of engagements athletics included. In Chapter 4, the emphasis shifts to helping athletes recognize the cognitive underpinnings of post-concussive syndrome to help them better cope with the often lengthy recovery period. Athletes, coaches, and parents alike ought to find the information conveyed in Part 2 quite useful for taking their “game” up a notch.
